Impact of the Adam de Brome Society

Oriel’s reputation for academic excellence and as a supportive, welcoming environment is strengthened by Orielenses and friends who choose to remember the College in their Will.

Legacy gifts help to:

  • Endow Fellowships that protect the unique tutorial system
  • Establish bursaries and scholarships to support talented students
  • Recruit and retain world-class academics, and advance cutting-edge research
  • Preserve and renovate ancient buildings to create new teaching and social spaces that enable students and academics to flourish in the collegiate environment.

Since the foundation of the College in 1326, financial support from Orielenses and friends has helped shape and transform Oriel. By inviting Orielenses to remember the College in their Wills, we ask you to continue a long tradition of philanthropy, and join a distinctive group of generous friends who believe in the value of an Oriel education and its significant impact on generations of students’ lives.

How will you make a difference?

Student Support

Oriel remains committed to enrolling the best and brightest students, regardless of their background. Scholarships, financial support, extra-curricular grants, and other types of funding are available for both undergraduate and postgraduate students—opening the door to an Oriel education and helping students reach their full potential.

Teaching and Research

Attracting world-leading academics to carry out their research and teaching at Oriel. Oriel’s academic excellence rests on the expertise of our Fellows, and the success of our students relies on the individual teaching they receive from their tutors. In order to continue to recruit and retain the most outstanding Fellows, Oriel must offer incentives in line with an ever more competitive international market.

College Environment

Refurbishing, renovating, and preserving our historic buildings and heritage, and investing in new buildings and facilities. Today, Oriel is looking to the future and reimagining 21st Century teaching and living spaces for our students and Fellows.

Recognition and benefits of membership

We are pleased to welcome those who have stated their intention to leave a gift to Oriel in their Will into the Adam de Brome Society in recognition of their generosity and partnership.

Members are invited each year, with their guests, to a lunch in College and are encouraged to make use of the Benefactors’ Room on staircase seven if they are visiting. The names of Society members may be published in the Oriel Record and Annual Donors’ Report, although wishes for anonymity will of course be respected. You will also receive a special tie or scarf which we encourage you to wear with pride at College events.
